GDC Orthodontic Specialist List Success
Julia Furley has another success before the GDC’s Specialist List Appeal Panel.
Dr P completed an BDS degree in the UK, before moving to Hong Kong to complete a MClinDent in Orthodontics at the prestigious University of Hong Kong, subsequently passing the MOrth at the RCS Edinburgh. Having completed a PhD on an unrelated topic, Dr P returned to the UK to practice in 2017. The original application was refused by the SAC on the basis that the MClinDent was not equivalent to a UK CCST student.
Julia argued that this decision was fundamentally flawed due to the errors in the calculations undertaken by the SAC panel members. She argued that Dr P’s qualifications and their standard of work were equivalent and that Dr P should be entered onto the Specialist List in Orthodontics.
The SLA Panel agreed, and Dr P has now been entered onto the specialist list.
