Orthodontist gains entry on to the Specialist List
Our client, Dr Moussa Pacha, an Orthodontist from Syria, has successfully gained entry onto the Specialist List in the UK.
We assisted Dr Moussa Pacha with his application to gain entry on to the GDC’s specialist list. Unfortunately, this application was rejected by the SAC panel and so Dr Moussa Pacha, with our help, submitted an appeal to this decision.
A successful appeal
The original application was rejected on the grounds that Dr Moussa Pacha did not have his original log book. This had been destroyed in the Syrian conflict and so Dr Moussa Pacha had created a log book to demonstrate the types of cases he had been involved in which had been verified by his supervisors and accepted by the GDC as a true record. In all other aspects the SAC panel had deemed his Syrian specialist training equivalent.
In the appeal we highlighted to the panel the draconian requirement to produce a log book that had been destroyed and the injustice not to accept the evidence of the applicant. The appeal panel confirmed the SAC panel were unjustified in their decision and allowed the appeal, as well as refunding Dr Moussa Pacha’s fees for the same.
